Overview
Traditionally
education in Maradu island as the Maldives, was limited to the
basic literacy skills; namely the recital of the Holy Quran,
reading and writing the Dhivehi language and Arabic and the
rudiments of arithmetic.
Institutions
In Edhuruge'
(lit. master's home), learning centred on individual tutorials
in religious teachings. The teacher or master was known as
Edhurubeyya', or in case of a woman, Edhuruudhaitha.
Modern Schools
Maradhu School,
Irushaadhiyyaa School and Aman Pre School are the three
educational centres which are currently in operation at Maradhu.
Many Children from Mardhu also attend Muhibudheen school and
Addu Comprehensive School as well as Maldives College of Higher
Education campus
located at Hithadhu Island as they are accessible by land in a
short drive by a vehicle.
