Maradhu Weather

Transportation within Maradhu island mainly consists of land vehicles. Pickups and Lorries are used for the transportation of goods from one place to other. Maradhu's neighboring islands are accessible by land through causeways and visits to those island are made mainly by cars (taxis) and motorbikes while many people use bicycles and motorbikes to travel within the island.

There are two taxi centres in Maradhu. Those are Concorde Taxi Service and Glaze Taxi Service. Taxis are the main form of transportation between the islands of Addu land mass. Taxi centers play a significant role in providing transportation service between Gan airport and Maradhu island as well as carrying patients and their assistants to and from Regional Hospital located at Hithadhu island. Students of Maradhu who are studying in Schools located at Hithadhu are transported to and back by school buses which originates from Feydhu and runs through neighboring Maradhu-Feydhu as well as Maradhu on their way to Hithadhu.

Sea Transport

Sea transport is also a mode of transport at Maradhu island. Mechanized dhonis and cargo boats are used in sea transport. Fishermen use fishing dhonis to transport their catch to neighboring island and atolls. Dhonis are also used as a mode of transportation between the neighboring atolls of Fuvahmulah and Huvadhoo atolls.

Maradhu also have cargo boats which are the main cargo and goodies transporters for the island between the Capital Male' and Maradhu. Local products and goods are send to Male' for sale through these vessels. These boats are also primarily responsible for transporting goods from Male to local businesses.

Air Transport

Even though there is no air strip at Maradhu island itself, air transport is also an integral part of transportation mechanism of Maradhu island. The close accessible proximity to Gan airport and the time saving factor enforces many people from Maradhu island to use Airplanes to travel between Male and Maradhu. This sector is especially popular among Maradhu hoteliers who work in Tourism industry in Male atoll and other central atolls of Maldives.
